How DSC helped Bristol-Myers Squibb satisfy customers with customized service
The delivery of personal care products gets personal attention around the clock

When your business partner accurately sees what you need and responds, it’s a great feeling.

That’s what Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) wanted when they asked DSC Logistics for “each pick” service. Bristol-Myers Squibb sold Clairol™ hair color to smaller retail outlets like Sally’s Beauty Supply. But these smaller stores simply couldn’t use an entire case of one hair color. And Bristol-Myers Squibb wanted to keep these customers happy.

So, DSC and Bristol-Myers Squibb worked out a solution for shipping less-than-full (LTF) cases of Clairol™ hair color and other personal care products to these customers. First, we dedicated a portion of our warehouse just to handling these requests for Bristol-Myers Squibb. Then, as BMS sent partial-case orders to DSC, our system flagged these orders for special picking. DSC employees picked every LTF order by hand. Our goal was to be flexible, responsive and timely—even if it meant driving beauty products to the store on rush orders and delivering a shipment in person.

Another “each pick” project we managed for Bristol-Myers Squibb was creating promotional displays of personal care products and pharmaceuticals for supermarkets. As seasons and promotions changed, so did the products. We dedicated an entire department at our Logistics Center to this full-time job for Bristol Myers Squibb.

The trick to making “each pick” work is having a precise inventory management solution. DSC’s powerful Warehouse Management System (WMS) is such a solution. WMS can track product through all of our centers on a case-by-case and item-by-item basis, ‘round the clock. Which means there’s no danger of discovering that you’re one box shy of Nice ‘n Easy Natural Lightest Golden Brown just when someone needs it.
