How DSC helped Entech start up U.S. operations and manage all transportation
Balancing the fluctuations between day-to-day business and promotional activity

Any company who’s never done business in the U.S. before is bound to have lots of questions. So, it makes sense to find a logistics partner who can answer them. For Shanghai-based sponge manufacturer Entech, DSC Logistics provides the answers, along with the flexibility and the efficient processes they need.

DSC helps Entech handle the challenge of learning all about doing business in the U.S. and managing dramatic seasonal fluctuations in business volume at the same time. Entech managers ask lots of “what if” questions about U.S. logistics. And, we always investigate scenarios in order to give them the best answers. They listen intently as we bring them up to speed on doing business in the U.S.

Entech is part of our MOST (Multi-vendor Optimization Strategy) consolidation program and we helped establish the company as a Wal-Mart customer. At our MOST consolidation centers, we combine Entech’s orders with those of other Wal-Mart vendors and deliver FTL shipments weekly to each of Wal-Mart’s 42 regional Remix distribution centers. Being part of MOST allows Entech to cost effectively service Wal-Mart regardless of the size of the shipment. And, we also help them with re-packing or kitting services in our Logistics Centers as needed.

DSC handles all domestic transportation for Entech. Containers from Asia, stacked full, are received in DSC facilities in Southern California and we coordinate all outbound freight. While Entech’s week-to-week business volume is fairly small, around spring cleaning time or a major holiday the company ramps up for huge promotional activity 20-30 times greater than the daily volume. Volumes are different in each Wal-Mart distribution center and each promotional period is unique, so DSC’s execution plan has to change each time. Plus, since the product is coming from China, time is always tight, and there are the holiday periods to negotiate.
