Green Award recognizes DSC for Sustainability Efforts
DSC Logistics has been selected by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine to receive the 2009 Green Supply Chain Award. A total of 21 companies, including leading retailers and manufacturers Williams-Sonoma and Hewlett-Packard, were highlighted for "taking steps to realize green goals." The editors recognized companies who "stand out for their projects to incorporate sustainability objectives into their own supply chains or enable sustainability in their customers' supply chain."

DSC launches project to save 644,000 pages of paper a year
As one of DSC Logistics' most recent efforts to reduce paper usage, a new Bill of Lading (BOL) system has been put into place throughout the DSC network. Alert employees noticed that the typical six-part BOL is usually not needed, so DSC worked with the supplier to arrange for each Logistics Center to order a form with only the number of pages it needs. Good ideas like this one become best practices through DSC's APEX (Achieving Performance Excellence) process. Reducing paper usage is part of DSC's Sustainability Statement of Purpose: To adopt practices that promote the responsible use of resources throughout Our Company.

2009 Founder's Day Focuses on Sustainability
At simultaneous Founder's Day celebrations throughout the DSC network, employees were challenged to "Think Greener." An event honoring DSC's founding as Dry Storage Company in 1960, Founder's Day featured a video describing the importance of green practices and the launch of DSC's Sustainability Statement of Purpose:
  • DSC will adopt practices that promote the responsible use of resources throughout Our Company.
  • DSC will work with Our Customers to support and realize the value of sustainability initiatives.
  • DSC will help employees understand that actions we all take impact Our World -- and encourage employees to think greener in all aspects of their lives.
DSC's CEO Ann Drake asked employees to submit green ideas in the areas of Our Company, Our Customers, and Our World. These ideas will be compiled into a "Giant Green List" and will also be evaluated as potential future initiatives.
