In case you missed this small bit of news:
Microsoft wants to remind you: it’s 2020, and you’re typing on a computer keyboard, not a typewriter. So, don’t hit the space bar twice after a period or whatever punctuation mark you use to end a sentence.
Never used a typewriter? Back in the day, typists spaced twice to mark the end of a sentence since characters were “monospaced” and took up the same amount of space on a page. Now, in modern times, fonts adjust character width and sentences are easier to read.
So, no need for that extra space – as your updated Microsoft Word software will let you know when it flags your error.
