Labor Market: E-Commerce continues to disrupt industry norms. Amazon’s starting minimum wage is $15 per hour, surpassing traditional starting wages. As the labor force tightens, companies are turning to automation and new technology solutions to meet customers’ needs.

Transportation: The U.S. trucker shortage swelled by more than 10,000 to 60,800 in 2018 from a year earlier and is expected to more than double to 160,000 over the next decade, according to the ATA update.

In News: Tariffs could cause Amazon and Wayfair to raise their prices, directly impacting U.S. consumers. Spot markets are likely to tighten due to the aftermath of Dorian in order to get freight back on track. The USMCA promises streamlined shipments and customs if the proposed trade deal passes through congress.
